June 28th, 2009 - Portland Baseball Club finishes in 4th at Aloha Knights Tournament

Portland Baseball Club 14U took 4th place in the Aloha Knights tournament this past weekend. They finished the weekend going 1-3. On Saturday, they lost to Mound Time Black 10-4. Rilyn Lewchuk went 5 innings giving up 7 runs on 8 hits. Ryan Roos went 3-3 with 2 rbi and 1 stolen base.

In game 2 Saturday, Austin Hunsdon pitched his first complete game of the year to defeat Beaverton JBO 11-6. Hunsdon gave up 6 runs on 9 hits while striking out 3. He was 1-4 at the plate with 2 runs scored and 2 stolen bases. Rilyn Lewchuk was 3-5 with 2 rbi and 3 runs scored.

In the semi finals, PBC lost to Aloha 8-5 in a very close and intense game. Buck Hale got the start going 6 2/3. He was also 2-3 at the plate with 3 rbi. Mike Monteith was 2-4 with 2 runs scored.

In the 3rd place game, PBC jumped out to an early 3-0 lead over Chaffey of Washington, but could not hold on and lost 9-6. Mike Monteith was 2-3 with an rbi and Kelly Krumm was 1-3 with an rbi.

June 21st, 2009 - Portland Baseball Club wins the Columbia County Baseball Academy Tournament going 4-1

Portland Baseball Club 14U team won their first tournament of the year defeating CCBA 5-0 in the championship game. The story of the game was the pitching of Buck Hale. Buck threw a complete game, 1 hitter striking out 13 batters. The offense found their rhythm knocking out 7 hits including 2 by Quentin Lake.

Throughout the tournament, the team played of its best baseball. To open the tournament, they defeated Showtime 5-2. Rilyn Lewchuk got the start and took a perfect game through 5 1/3 innings. He ended giving up 2 runs on 3 hits with 4 strikeouts. Buck Hale was 2/4 with 2 stolen bases and Mike Monteith had 2 RBI.

In game 2, they defeated Scappoose JBO behind a great 1 hit performance by Buck Hale. He went the distance giving up 2 runs on 3 walks and 16 strikeouts. George Still went 2/3 with an RBI and Ryan Roos was 1/3 with an rbi and 2 stolen bases.

Game 3 on Sunday morning was a barn burner. The final score was 14-13 with PBC on the losing end. In another defensive mind lapse, PBC gave up 14 runs, but only 6 were earned. Buck Hale led the offense going 3/4 with 4 rbi. Mike Monteith, Drew Reichenbach, and Cole Miller each contributed 2 hits.

Game 4 on Sunday was the semi finals against Home Run Park Spartans. Final score was 19-7. Buck Hale and Drew Reichenbach each had 3 hits. Rilyn Lewchuk, Mike Monteith, and George Still each had 2 hits. Quentin Lake threw a scoreless 6th inning in his first appearance of the season.

May 31st, 2009 - 14U Finished in 2nd Place at North Oregon Babe Ruth Invitational

Portland Baseball Club played 3 games on Sunday losing in the championship game 16-4 to Hazel Dell Storm securing a 2nd place finish in the North Oregon Babe Ruth Invitational.

In game one, we defeated Mound Time 14s 4-2 behind a great pitching performance from Buck Hale who got the win going 5 innings giving up only 2 hits and striking out 5. Austin Hunsdon pitched the final two innings to pick up the save. George Still was 3/3 with 2 rbi.

In game two, we defeated Black Hawks Babe Ruth 8-7 in a thrilling game. PBC used 5 pitchers anchored by Austin Hunsdon starting and going 2 innings followed by Luke Ehli, Rilyn Lewchuk, Josh Scott (winning pitcher) and Buck Hale (save). Offensively, Luke Ehli was 3/4 with 3 runs scored and an rbi. George Still and Ryan Roos had 2 rbi. Rilyn Lewchuk added 2 hits and 2 stolen bases.

In the championship game, PBC was matched up against Hazel Dell Storm - their opening game opponent. After jumping out to a 4 run lead in the top of the 1st thanks to a 2 rbi triple by Buck Hale and a 2 rbi single from Logan Dix. However, they quickly gave up 5 unearned runs in the bottom of the 1st. The game stayed at 6-3 Storm until the 5th inning when PBC ran out of gas and pitchers. Buck Hale, Luke Ehli, Mike Monteith, George Still, and Kelly Krumm all got an opportunity to throw in the championship game. Cole Miller and Luke Ehli each had 2 hits. Rilyn Lewchuk, Logan Dix, and Josh Scott all had hits.

The team will take a much deserved rest this week before picking up again Sunday.

May 30th, 2009 - 14U Wins a Pair, Gains Birth in Championship Round

In day 2 of the North Oregon Babe Ruth Invitational, Portland Baseball Club picked up a pair of wins and will play Sunday in the championship round. In game one, they beat Summit Research 9-7. Josh Scott picked up the win in relief going 3 innings and striking out 4. Buck Hale had 2 hits and 3 rbi, George Still had 2 hits and an rbi and Rilyn Lewchuk, Ryan Roos, Cole Miller, and Mike Monteith all had a hit.

In game 2, we defeated the Clackamas Bulldogs 12-1. Luke Ehli got the start and went 4 innings striking out 7 and giving up no hits. George Still, Buck Hale, and Rilyn Lewchuk each had two hits. Still contributed 3 rbis as well. Mike Moneith was 3-3 on stolen bases.

Next up is the quarterfinals at 9am at THPRD Sunday morning. Opponent is TBD.

May 29th, 2009 - 14U Opens North Oregon Babe Ruth Invitational with Loss

In the opening game of the North Oregon Babe Ruth Invitational, Portland Baseball Club lost to Hazel Dell Storm 10-0. The Storm is the freshman team from Skyview HS in Vancouver. Buck Hale started going 3+ innings striking out 5 and giving up 2 earned runs. He also got PBC's only hit of the game.

May 27th, 2009 - 14U Loses 14-0 to Heritage Freshman Summer Team

Playing against their first high school summer team of the year, Portland Baseball Club lost 14-0 to the Heritage freshman team. Rilyn Lewchuk had 2 hits in 3 at bats. Tyler Henderson, Luke Ehli, and Josh Scott also contributed hits.

May 23rd, 2009 - 14U drops DH to South Salem JBO

Portland Baseball Club dropped a doubleheader to South Salem JBO on Saturday losing game 1 12-1 and game 2 6-1. In game 1, they managed only 2 hits - 1 from Evan Heslop and 1 from Buck Hale. Hale also got the start giving up 10 runs, 3 earned, and striking out 7. The team stole 6 bases.

In game 2, Luke Ehli went the distance on the mound giving up 6 runs, 3 earned while striking out 6 and walking 1. Buck Hale went 2/3 and scored the only run. The team stole 7 bases in game 2.

Next up is Heritage Freshman team at Heritage HS on Wednesday. 5pm start.

May 16-17, 2009 - 14u Finishes in 3rd Place at Jeff Fazio Memorial Tournament

Portland Baseball Club made a trip up to Tacoma to play in the Jeff Fazio Memorial Tournament hosted by Triple Play Baseball Club. The tournament featured some of the top 14U teams in the Seattle area. On Saturday, PBC dropped two games. In game one, they lost 9-0 to Narrows Yankees. An 8 run second inning with only 2 earned runs sank the team. Josh Scott, George Still, and Ryan Roos all had base hits. In game two, they lost 10-0 to a very good NW Timberjacks team. The Timberjacks are ranked one of the top travel teams in the country by Perfect Game. Ryan Roos and Rilyn Lewchuk had singles for PBC.

On Sunday, PBC got on the board beating the host team, Triple Play Stingers 9-0. Rilyn Lewchuk had his best game of the season on the mound going 5 innings, striking out 4 on two hits and no runs. Austin Hunsdon finished the last 2 innings with 4 strikeouts. Luke Ehli had 2 hits and 2 rbi and George still also had 2 rbi. That win secured a place in the semi finals.

In the semis, PBC got Narrows Yankees again. Narrows jumped out 2-0 in the first inning, but PBC evened the score in the 3rd inning on rbi single by Luke Ehli and an rbi single by Logan Dix. The pitching staff did a pretty good job anchored by starter Luke Ehli who went 4 innings giving up 6 hits and 5 strikeouts. The game fell apart defensively in the 5th inning when Narrows scored 4 unearned runs with 1 hit. The final score was 12-2.

May 9th, 2009 - 14U Splits with Aloha JBO

In a couple of 10 runs games, Portland Baseball Club earned a split with Aloha JBO. Game 1 ended 15-2 as Aloha got 10 hits in 4 innings putting up 11 earned runs. Starter Rilyn Lewchuk kept the Aloha bats at bay for a few innings before the balls started dropping in. He went 3 1/3 giving up 8 hits and striking out 3. Luke Ehli had a single and an rbi and Ryan Roos had an rbi double.

In game 2 Portland Baseball Club turned the tides on Aloha winning 17-6. Luke Ehli threw a complete game giving up 5 hits and striking out 6. Buck Hale went 2-4 with 2 rbi and 2 runs scored. Ryan Roos and Josh Scott both contributed with 3 rbi each. Kelly Krumm had 2 stolen bases.

Next up is the Jeff Fazio Memorial Tournament in Tacoma, WA. We play against the Narrows Yankees at 11:00am Saturday followed by a 1:00pm game against NW Timberjacks. Sunday we play at 10:00am against Triple Play Baseball Club with the semi-finals and finals to follow afterward.

May 4th, 2009 - 14U gets first 2 wins of the season

Portland Baseball Club 14U picked up their first win of the season 4-0 behind Buck Hale and Luke Ehli throwing a complete game, 1 hit, shutout. Hale threw 5+ innings striking out 7 giving up one hit. Ehli closed it out striking out 2 in 2 innings. Buck also contributed at the plate hitting a triple to leadoff the second innings, he scored on a throwing error trying to get him at home. Logan Dix, Luke Ehli, and George Still all had rbi's.

In the second game, the bats came alive scoring 5 in the first inning including a home run by George Still leading to a 11-0 win. Mike Moneith was 2-3 with 3 runs scored and Luke Ehli was 3-3 with 3 rbi. In total, we knocked out 12 hits. Cole Miller was outstanding on the mound going 3 innings, facing 10 hitters and striking out 2.

Next up is Aloha Knights at Aloha HS on Saturday May 9th.

April 26th, 2009 - Bats Come Alive But Defense Falls Apart

Just as our bats started to come alive and we put some runs on the board, our defense faltered giving up 10 unearned runs in the 3rd inning of the first game which we lost 12-10. Buck Hale had a great first game both at the plate and on the mound. He was 2-4 with 2 runs scored, 1 rbi, and stolen base. He also pitched 2+ innings giving up 10 unearned runs while giving up only 3 hits and striking out 5. Luke Ehli broke out his first hits of the summer going 3-4. George Still went 2-3 with 2 rbi and Tyler Henderson was 1-1 with 2 rbi.

Game saw another great pitching performance from Luke Ehli. He went 4 1/3 giving up 7 runs (3 earned) on 3 hits while striking out 5. He stayed hot with the bat too going 2-3. Buck Hale also stayed hot going 2-3 with a stolen base. Ryan Roos hit a double going 1-3 and scored a run.

April 19th, 2009 - Two close games results in losses

Portland Baseball Club 14U dropped to 0-6 on the year after getting swept in a doubleheader by Columbia County Baseball Academy. In two close ballgames, PBC could only muster 6 hits against some pretty good pitching. In the first game, Buck Hale went 6+ innings in his first appearance of the season. He game up 3 runs on 5 hits and 8 strikeouts. George Still had probably his best outing of the season going 3 innings. The highlight of the game was in the bottom of the 8th inning when CC Baseball Academy led off with a triple. After 2 intentional walks and bringing Logan Dix our centerfielder in as a 5th infielder, Still went on to strike out the next two batters before getting a ground ball to get out of the inning. CC Baseball scored a run in the bottom of the 9th inning to win 4-3.

In game two, Luke Ehli went 5+ innings giving up 4 runs on 5 hits. Rilyn Lewchuck finished the last inning giving up two runs on 1 hit. The pitching staff combined for 0 walks in this game. Our offense struck in the first inning as Josh Scott scored the first run of the game. We added two more in the 7th but ended up losing 6-3.

April 11th, 2009 - 14U drops both games of DH to Bulldog Baseball Academy

On a cloudy spring day, Portland Baseball Club 14U left the bats at home again dropping both games of a doubleheader to the Bulldog Baseball Academy out of Vancouver, WA.

In game one, Rilyn Lewchuck got the start on the mound going 2+ innings giving up 7 runs, 3 earned on 7 seven hits. Austin Hunsdon made his first appearance on the bump going 2 innings and giving up 2 earned runs. Josh Scott finished the game getting his first inning of the year. Offensively, the only hits came from Kelly Krumm and Cole Miller. The team had 10 strikeouts in 5 innings with 7 of them looking. The final score was 16-0.

In game two, Cole Miller, Luke Ehli, and George Still combined for 10 strikeouts and only 3 walks as Bulldogs won 9-1. Offensively, George Still was 3 for 3 and Mikey Britt and Luke Ehli both added singles. Austin Hunsdon had the only RBI on a sacrifice fly in the 2nd inning.

Next weeked the team travels to Tacoma, WA to play the Triple Play Stingers in a 1pm DH on Saturday then returns to Portland on Sunday for a 12pm DH at St. Helens HS against the Columbia County Baseball Academy.

April 5th, 2009 - 14U team plays inaugural games

On a beautiful Sunday afternoon, Portland Baseball Club played its inaugural games. The opponent was Sellwood JBO. Game 1 ended in a 6-3 score. Starting pitcher Luke Ehli for game one. He went 3 innings giving up 5 runs, only 3 earned. Mikey Britt and George Still came in to relieve and pitched very well. PBC only garnered two hits in the game. Josh Scott recorded the first hit in PBC history with a sharp single to right field in the top of the 5th.

Game 2 was another solid baseball game with the score 5-4 going into the 7th inning. Sellwood scored 4 off reliever Logan Dix to win 9-6. Only 1 of the 4 runs off Dix was earned. Cole Miller got the start on the mound going 4 innings giving up 4 runs, 2 earned and 2 strikeouts. Rilyn Lewchuck relieved Miller and struck out 3 in 3 innings of very good pitching. Offensively the bats were quiet with only 3 hits. Logan Dix, Mike Monteith, and Austin Hunsdon all had singles.

Next game is Saturday April 11th against Bulldog Baseball Academy. Located is TBD.

March 9th, 2009 - 14U Schedule Posted & Looking for Players

The 2009 14U team schedule has been posted online. This is not the final schedule as more games are being added so be sure and check the website often for updates.

We are also looking for 1-2 more players for the 2009 season. If you or anyone you know is interested in a private workout, please email Joe Taylor.

January 31st, 2009 - Kris Miles Injury Update

2009 14U team member Kris Miles was tragically struck by an SUV while riding his bike home from school on January 22nd. He suffered major injuries to his legs, shoulder, and head. He is in a medically induced coma while doctors continue to perform procedures on his brain as well as fix the broken bones. All of our prayers are with Kris and his family. The family has set up a website which they update daily from the hospital. Click here

November 3rd, 2008 - Portland Baseball Club Announces 14U Team

Portland Baseball Club is pleased to announce the formation of a 14U team in 2009. The team will be coached by Joe Taylor. They will play a competitive 40+ game schedule as well as a comprehensive practice schedule throughout the winter into the summer. Our goal is to prepare players for high school baseball.
